The label National Center for Musical Creation (CNCM) was founded by the Ministry of Culture in 1996, confirming the interest in the existence and sustainability of working spaces for composers dedicated to the production of new works, research, and raising public awareness around contemporary musical creation.

Currently, eight structures benefit from the national center for musical creation label:
Athénor – Saint-Nazaire
Césaré – Reims
ici l’onde – Dijon
• The GMEA – Albi
• The GMEM – Marseille
• The Grame – Lyon
La Muse en circuit – Alfortville
Voce – Pigna (Corse)

The association of National Centers for Musical Creation is the national network of the label, which coordinates and brings together the actions and initiatives of the centers and the visibility of their activities.

The national centers for musical creation have the main mission to enable the conception and realization of new musical works. They serve as welcoming places for composers, performers, and artists from various disciplines engaged in a creation project, finding a high-level technical environment, accompanied by technological assistance.

The national centers also pursue fundamental or applied research, with the goal of developing knowledge, experimentation, the development and adaptation of new tools and processes for musical creation.

In order to support the dissemination of new works, the national centers organize or co-produce public events during the season, in the form of concerts, multidisciplinary performances, and sound installations. Dissemination can also take place within the framework of festivals. The circulation of works is also facilitated by seeking partnerships for organizing tours, particularly in the form of co-productions with general production and dissemination networks, and by selling concerts and performances at regional, national, and international levels.

The national centers also have the responsibility of a mission of awareness-raising, training, and educational support, in connection with specialized music education institutions and national education. They also engage in the preservation and promotion of works created in their studios.

Equipped with facilities dedicated to creation and research, recording and mixing studios, and some with rehearsal and dissemination spaces, the national centers for musical creation play a leading role at the national level in terms of musical commissions and residencies. Their dissemination activities, which gather more than 30,000 spectators, allow for the presentation of about a hundred works in world creation each year.
