  • Round table: Freedom to create

The freedom to create

A political and societal struggle of today and tomorrow

Presented by
Futurs Composés x Césaré x faraway

Always in search of synergies and encounters, faraway 2026 wished to offer a meeting and exchange space for several professional networks and institutions. These shared moments – conceived as festival pathways – are, each time, very enriching for the participants, the networks themselves, and of course the festival.

This edition of faraway 2026 dedicated to Argentina invites a broader reflection: the tensions currently running through the Argentine artistic scene remind us how much freedom of creation remains a universal issue, including in France.

In a context where ideological, political, and societal tensions are multiplying, the question of freedom of creation and artistic dissemination arises with a renewed urgency. How to preserve this essential space for expression in the face of pressures, censorship, or self-censorship?

This roundtable proposes to explore the multiple facets of this fragile freedom, through the diverse perspectives of cultural professionals, artists, researchers, and institutional actors. Together, they will question the obstacles currently faced by creators and programmers, as well as the means to resist infringements on artistic freedom.

Between historical reflection, sharing of experiences, and action perspectives, this meeting aims to place the artist and freedom of creation at the heart of public debate and affirm their indispensable role in the democratic and cultural vitality of our societies.

  • Grégoire Pateau, mission manager of UFISC - Federal Union for the Intervention of Cultural Structures.
