La mano de Dios

At the crossroads of concert, visual performance, and living archive, Césaré – National Center for Musical Creation invites you to discover an original creation dedicated to a legendary figure from Argentina: footballer Diego Maradona.

The title of the show, The Hand of God, refers to the famous goal scored with the hand by Diego Maradona that allowed Argentina to beat England in the 1986 World Cup. A football legend and global pop icon, Maradona embodies much more than a sport or a country. He passed away in 2020 at the age of 60, inspiring many filmmakers, singers, and writers around the world. Echoing the theme of faraway 2026 dedicated to Argentina, La mano de Dios draws from materials – audiovisual, radio, sports, political, or intimate – to create an artistic matter, diverted, amplified, metamorphosed. Designed as a sensitive journey around Maradona, this piece for images, sounds, and music was created based on commissions made to musicians, videographers, and sound artists, invited to explore the multiple facets of a character that has become a symbol: glory and fall, body and myth, voice and collective memory. Imagined for all audiences, this transversal work, between experimental music concert and cinema, seeks to make the moment resonate, between popular ritual and poetic matter.
