Without the Bear

A sound ritual born from the piece Rencontrer l'Ours (Encountering the Bear), Sans l'Ours (Without the Bear) opens first as a solo with Stefania Becheanu. Behind an intimate table, she manipulates wood, stones, bowls, and deer antlers. These raw gestures, captured live, compose a music that is both elemental and electronic, inspired by Romanian forests. Today, the piece becomes a duo with Clara Freschel. Stefania's universe meets Clara's choreographic and vocal approach, nurtured by the chants of medieval composer Hildegard of Bingen.

For two years, Stefania Becheanu benefited from the support of Césaré CNCM - Reims as part of the Grand Est Region – Support for Emerging Performing Arts (classical and contemporary music) scheme, as well as a territorial residency at the Maison de la Musique Contemporaine in Paris in 2025. Stefania is the winner of the 4th edition of the QuattroPole Music Prize, the final of which was held at the Cité musicale-Metz in April 2026. She is also a recipient of the Villa Albertine Music grant and is preparing her next creation in Chicago.
