Winter Sun: A Musical Archaeology of Exile

In Winter Sun, Grégory Dargent unravels the thread of an intimate story: that of a father, a child forced to flee Algeria in 1961, and that of a son who seeks to understand what this exile has left in him.

The oud as heritage

For more than twenty years, Grégory Dargent has chosen the oud as his instrument of creation. In this piece, he questions this choice as an ancient intuition, perhaps inherited. His music — fragmented, explosive, virtuosic — becomes the ground for a sensitive exploration where loss and displacement intermingle.

A quest beyond borders

Between 2024 and 2025, this questioning led him on the roads of Algeria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt. From this journey, he brought back sounds, images, and a nostalgia finally shaped.

Winter Sun is the story of this quest: a personal memory that connects to the universal history of invisible legacies.
