Diva Lazarus

Musical and theatrical performance
for a singer in public space

What if an opera singer were confronted with her shadow – a terrifying diva who would exist only in the eyes of others? Through the poem “Lady Lazarus” by Sylvia Plath, the figures of Maria Callas, Cathy Berberian, Nina Simone, Catherine Ringer, Amy Winehouse and so many others, mirrored with the personal story of performer Ema Katrovas, Diva Lazarus explores the myth of the diva, the audience’s gaze and the fragility of the human voice - the only musical instrument that dies.
