Nuovo trecento

musical creation for amplified music quartet
drawing its source from Italian music
of the late 14th century

The starting point is the interest of the musician Emmanuel Scarpa in polyphony, and more particularly in the canon. Searching for the first canon in history of which we still have a trace led him about fifteen years ago to the Ars Subtilior, a short period teeming with invention at the end of the 14th century, nestled between the Ars Nova and the Renaissance.

After several years of contemplative listening to this music and musicological research, the desire for a project based on this period naturally emerged for him. From there was born the group Le Quadrivium, and the first repertoire of the same name.

This project consists of two parts: Le Quadrivium and Nuovo trecento.
