Spring Up
An electro-instrumental and dance performance
Spring Up is conceived as a "hyper-remix" of Igor Stravinsky's masterpiece, an exploration of the monument using the tools of our time. Between ritual and springtime eruption, the project offers an active and uncompromising reappraisal of the 1912 work.
The quartet — a dancer, a percussionist and two composer-musicians — follows a progression based on the 14 tableaux of The Rite of Spring. The score is drawn from a corpus of musical patterns (samples, motifs, rhythms) borrowed from Stravinsky, then recycled and deconstructed. On stage, the two soloists occupy the space while the composers shape the sound environment, like a drone over which the gesture unfolds.
In residence at Césaré, the team is developing the compositional directions and the digital tools for real-time processing. This creative process, which will run until 2028, relies on improvisation to define a stage language and spatial arrangement conceived collaboratively.
